ANTI-GBV MEDIA ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN

Updated: May 24, 2019

AGP Program Coordinator, Ben on Wazobia FM discussing the prevalence of child marriage and the different ways of ending the practice.

AGP underlines the importance of media in combating gender-based violence. Therefore, we visit media outlets to raise awareness about the various forms of GBV, how to talk about it, its structural and systemic causes, how our laws should protect women and girls from violence, what help is available to survivors, and how we can eliminate its root causes.

Our aim is to steer up thought-provoking conversations to reveal the complicity of the media in producing gendered narratives that reinforce gender inequality and gender-based violence. Also, we use the media platforms to sensitise the public on gender-based violence and how to destroy harmful norms, views and attitudes that contribute to an enabling environment. The goal is to change the way media portrays men, women and their relationships with one another and create positive narratives that would lead to a safer environment for all.
